Some people wonder what it is like to grow up in a small town and never leave. They say you are "stuck". I tell them that I stayed because it is my choice, although I'm not sure that they believe me.
It brings to mind the phrase, "Big fish in a small pond, or small fish in the ocean?"
Well, I never have liked the ocean much...
My name is Elly Williston and I love my life.
Yes, I do.
I love my family and I love my hometown of Thomasville, GA.
People ask me daily, " how do you manage to have a career and still take care of your beautiful home?" I just tell them when you love what you do, nothing feels like work. Whether it is being a mom, wife, or flowershop owner.
There is nothing i love more than picking flowers on a Sunday morning. Picked these just two days ago!
I have traveled to the big cities before, and I do love it! Y'all know I have never left this fine country though? I swear! Why leave when we live in a country built on freedom and liberty?
I like to think of myself as an authentic Georgia peach! ;)
Sometimes I wonder about what would have happened if I had accepted the job at the law firm in Big City, New York. No, sweetie, I was not ever a lawyer. I was on my way to becoming a paralegal. The problem was it didn't make me as happy as my dear husband Robert, may he rest in peace.
Thomasville Georgia is the only place I have ever known. Not much happens here except for the typical “cat stuck in the tree scenario”. I do love cats, but when my sweet Tabby, Sprinkles goes out, I do always worry she is going to get stuck in the magnolia tree out front.
Magnolia
trees line my street and it is definitely a sight to see. I do love driving
down these old cobblestone roads admiring the historic buildings, covered in
ivy and moss, while I reminisce about my past, about my past love. I smell the
sweet magnolia flowers and flashback to the time that my husband, Robert and I used
to spontaneously drive to Panama City Beach in Florida. This was of course,
before we decided to have children.
THIS was our oasis.
First thing I noticed on this blog is the title. It only says blog post #1. I would have liked to see some sort of title that described what I was about to read. Although the background was only white, which is a little simple it looks clean. The design or structure of this blog is simple just like the little town she is describing. There is not too much going on so it is easy to stay focused. This blog was very interesting. I liked how she was able to make her little town seem so interesting. The blogger had a lot to say and added a photo to go with each of their description of something. This person changed up their positioning of photos and word placement just a little. Some photos were before the words and others were behind that. I thought it was going to be confusing at first, but it seemed to work out well. This person seemed to put the image first on something she discussed with more than one sentence. I was a little confused on the writing format. Some parts were gray font and others were black. I didn’t know if she did this on purpose or if it was an accident. I kind of wished she posted a photo of a real Georgia peach. It would have made her description of herself being an authentic Georgia peach more meaningful. However, I really liked the photo of the flowers because it looks like a photo she took herself and not one she got from the Internet. It makes this post seem more real. Overall this blog post was great. With just a couple fixable things I think it had a great description of multiple things with a photo to go along with each so the reader could relate better.
ReplyDeleteThe blogger clearly loves her hometown. I think she does a thorough job of listing the reasons why: family, atmosphere, her job as a florist. I think she could be more imaginative or given specific glimpses or instances of the love she feels for those things. I thought it was interesting how she mentioned the beach as her paradise, I think what she really meant was that Robert was Elly's paradise, wherever he went, and where-ever his memories continue to live is where she wants to live. I think Elly’s character has a lot of feeling towards Thomasville for more than just her cats and family and home, I would have liked to read some more exploration of these feeling/ideas.
ReplyDeleteThe bloggers choice of language was consistent and significant in developing Elly's character. Word choices such as "ya'll" and the line about wanting to be a "geaorgia peach" created that southern atmosphere she adores.
The structure of the blog is easy to read, fluid, and incorporates the photos in a very simple and direct manner. This blog is not abstract, but more of a journal account, especially with the use of symbols such as ":)" to emphasize joy. The photos definitely give the page a personality and a more intimate perspective into Elly's life. I loved how it began with the building illustrations, I’m not sure what the building is but I like the variety of images you provided. The photo of the cat is particularly striking, but the message was more focused on the Magnolia Trees. Intentional or not, it portrayed to the reader a playful and childish love for the cat.
As the previous author mentioned, don’t feel restricted because this is an “assignment.” The titles of your posts should give a hint to your content.
